You must be completely sure that no strong roots or stones remain between the jaws, as these can break the jaws when setting or releasing the trap. This happened once during the trap’s testing period. Based on our experience, this is the only way the trap can break.

2. When setting the trap, press the “tip” of the pedal with your foot (or knee), or preferably even by hand.

If the trap does not set, DO NOT JUMP on it! If the slots have been dug properly, the trap sets easily.

If problems recur, move the trap to another spot.

Check the trigger slot and deepen the seat if necessary.

Make sure soil does not interfere with the trap’s release. Clean the trap and move to another spot.

Do not touch the trap’s jaws with your hands without reason; the less human scent on the jaws, the better.

3. The trap does not release.

If the trigger tip (in the middle of the pedal) is about 3 cm above the pedal:

Lift the trap with a spade (not by hand); it should release. Clean the trap and move to another spot.

If the trap does not release after pressing the safety trigger, follow the previous tips.

4. If the soil is very soft.

During installation the trap may sink too deep. Try to find a firmer spot.

5. Lack of activity.

If the trap has not been triggered within a couple of days (up to a week), move it to another spot. This means the tunnel is no longer active. A mole passes through all of its tunnels in use within 48 hours.

CAUTION! NEVER HANDLE A SET TRAP! Before picking it up from the ground, the trap must first be deactivated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the mole trap you offer also safe for children and pets (dogs, cats)?

As with all traps, it is possible to hurt yourself with this one too. As a rule, however, once the trap is installed in the ground it is not dangerous, except when it is taken out of the ground while loaded. NEVER HANDLE A SET TRAP! To unload the trap, place your foot gently on the pedal and press the safety trigger at the back of the trap (yellow button). When the latch is released, the trap springs up. If you press the safety trigger without supporting the pedal, the trap can give quite a fright. It is better if children do not touch a set trap.

Why is the trap made of plastic; isn’t that a relatively fragile material, and how long is its lifespan?

The traps are made of plastic because plastic is more weatherproof and does not rust. The trap is mostly in moist soil anyway. It is nevertheless a very durable plastic — but anything can be broken, whether plastic or metal. With sensible and careful handling, the traps do not break and last for years.

The trap seems quite practical, but too expensive.

We would answer the question with a question: how much does a beautiful, well-kept garden cost? Considering the tools, machines and materials (lawn tractors, trimmers, grass shears, fill materials, plants, etc.), the extra cost of a mole trap for keeping the lawn in order is certainly not a large sum. If you think about it, moles are the only ones that ruin your beautiful, well-kept lawn/garden and hinder the growth of vegetables. In addition, with good care the trap can be used year after year and, if needed, catch hundreds of moles.

Should the trap be maintained in any way?

The trap does not require any special maintenance, although larger clumps of mud and other debris should always be removed before a new installation. Preferably, when the trap becomes very muddy, it should be washed with pressurized water, since loose soil between the mechanisms can start to hinder its release. The trap should also be washed thoroughly clean before being stored for winter, so a new hunting season can begin in spring if needed. It is also unwise to keep the trap in the sun when not in use. Although the plastic is treated with UV protection, in the long run this is not good for the trap and the plastic may become more brittle.

Does it matter which way the trap is positioned relative to the tunnel? Does it catch moles coming from both directions, or should two traps be used?

The trap does indeed catch moles coming from both directions; two traps side by side are not needed. We recommend using two or more traps when maintaining very large areas. Since moles mostly move only in their personal tunnels, several traps are needed to catch different moles at the same time.

Can the trap be set by hand instead of by foot?

The trap can freely be set by hand, since then you can better sense any obstacles and the risk of over-pressing is reduced. I would even dare to recommend setting it by hand.

The trap has triggered almost every morning, but there is no one inside. What is the matter?

This is certainly a case of a tunnel that is too deep, i.e. below the jaws. It means the mole pushes the soil under the sensor, which releases the trap, but the mole itself does not end up between the jaws. Try to find a tunnel that is higher up!

Before reading the FAQ, please also review the recommendations for using the trap: 1. The slots for the trap’s jaws must be cut properly with a spade beforehand.
